Dan Zanes – Kid crooner with great hair.

zanes1    Lucky kids. In the past, they might on occasion have someone like Brahms write them a lullaby or Woody Guthrie pen them a tune, but usually it was more like Burl Ives or a sing-along about a dog named, Bingo. Now there are all kinds of hip guys writing and making albums for kids. Little Richard, They Might Be Giants, and Ziggy Marley. Often there is little distinction between the kids they have in mind and the rest of us who aren’t sure what it means to grow up. It’s all music and, if the intention is to entertain and get people dancing, who cares who’s who? As Prince says, let’s get to stomping, let’s get to romping!

Dan Zanes is a rocker (Del Fuegos), who got older and had kids of his own. I’m not certain what’s true, but the difference between him and his kids may be that he can play the electric guitar and they can’t. It doesn’t matter. He’s written a bunch of great tunes that transcend the limitations of age.

About Ted Ringer

I am a writer, artist, and listener. Great music is everywhere and has no limits. Some of it is well-orchestrated and some is short and sweet. It can spring out of a moment of deep feeling or result from long periods of development. Music is communication, inspiration, and a million other things. This blog wants to share the wealth and keep toes tapping.
