What about Del? That voice – high nasal, improbable. That energy – sincere, soft and southern, with an edge that lets you know he means everything he says. And, his sense of family, not just the fact that it’s a family band, with his sons playing along just as professionally and great and authentic and from the heart as he is, but the family of the audience, a community of hearts following the beat, tapping their feet, and joining together for a moment of music that is incorporated by each member lucky enough to be there. Dang! What a great thing!
The Bluegrass Country
A Good Man Like Me[/audio]Del McCoury. He’s been playing for over fifty years, always pushing the edge of what he’s doing, a former Bluegrass Boy learning from the master, writing songs, supporting his family, with his sons keeping him young and pushing him forward. As he says in a song, “I’m a guitar-picking, bluegrass-singing, never grow up boy.” That’s true, but he’s a father to us all. A guy with the energy of inspired moonshine, an incredible head of hair, and a clear-eyed, peaceful soul.
